Things get ‘INTENTS’

vermintide2challenge1.jpg
Photo Title: Piece and Chaos.

Here is my entry for Day 1 of the Game Photography Challenge!
I was playing an advanced mission in Warhammer: Vermintide 2 and after jumping through a warp portal I appeared at the entrance of a Chaos warband camp. The fact that my party and I would have to cut through it was daunting but I was ready!

I can’t wait to see what everybody else plays and the photos they take.

Drifty Horse

challenge1.jpg
Title: Pimp my knight

Kinghtfall: A Daring Journey is an interesting game where you and a teammate start off at a camp with a horse and have to ride to the nearest town. The kicker is that you can drift the horse! Of course it looks silly and it gives a speed boost if the drift is done correctly.

Aliens Air Strike

aliensfireteam1.jpg
Title: Misleading Airstrike

The missions on Aliens: Fireteam Elite are pretty basic but the situations that occur are what keeps the game fun! My squad and I were poorly holding off an area being swarmed by Xenos when suddenly a timer popped up to make it across the bridge. In Video Games whenever the player has to cross a bridge with a timer counting down it usually means the bridge is going to be blown up!

After barely making it across when the timer hit zero I thought for sure two of my teammates were dead. Nope! Turns out it was just a missile barrage on the side we were defending. Talk about misleading!

Pac-Man flees!

pacman1.jpg
Photo Title: Key to Speed
Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+ is a suped up version of the original Pac-Man game. The longer the player stays alive while collecting pellets the more the game speed increase and the amount of ghosts chasing adds up with a line of them following you and one or two ghosts taking alternate paths.

I already had a hefty amount of ghosts chasing me and the game speed made it increasingly difficult to get a good photo lest I stagger on a wall or change directions too early and run into a sleeping ghost. I finally got a shot that was the ‘KEY’ to my goal.

Back to the beginning

fairie solitarie.jpg
Photo Title: Crazy Eights

I bought Faerie Solitaire during a digital sale because I missed playing Solitaire on my old Windows XP Machine. It was also around the time that the internet connection was faulty where I lived so whenever the connection was dead I would boot this up and play.

As you can see here the board is littered with 8s. What were the odds the pack would contain the exact cards I needed to clear away the eights?

Fishing Mood

Terraria1.jpg
Photo Title: Fishing a Hole
Instead of ‘Fixing a Hole’.

I created this community because often while having a quiet moment in the Video Game I would feel like the image being displayed on the screen was striking enough to be in an Art Exhibit or at least framed on the wall.

Terraria worlds are randomly generated so finding this spot was lucky because it was an absolutely perfect example (IMO) of Gaming Photography.

Entrenched in Combat

hell let loose2.jpg
Photo Title: On Both Sides

It was a tough part of the map in Hell Let Loose. My squad spawn was in a trench that the enemy was insistent on running down, so I figured if they wanted to run into my line of fire then more power to them!

After a minute a fresh spawn of teammates popped out of the corner spawn and one teammate immediately became close friends with the dirt. I hadn’t realized it but I was about to be flanked! Thankfully the next friendly player to pop out realized the situation and took quick action, shooting the enemy and saving me.

For this photo I added a filter and got rid of the HUD to give it an ‘authentic’ look.

Fallout 76

fallout763.png
Photo Title: Through the wall

Fallout 76 has a photo mode that allows for some great atmospheric photography. The background of the game world tells a story without saying a word and if the player has an eagle eye for detail they can enjoy the setting even more.

I was traversing through a wrecked building looking for loot (no judging!) when I realized that if I angled the camera perspective just right I could take a photo of this hole in the wall and make it look slightly sinister. Or perhaps a sight of relief! What lay beyond the light on the other side?

Maybe I am getting too deep into it but whenever I see this photo on my Fallout 76 loading screen I think ‘Wow the developers put a lot of detail in this photo’ only to realize it was a photo I took in-game.

Heretical Destruction

warhammerinquisitionmartyr1.jpg
Photo Title: Never Overkill

With heresy it is never enough in Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor Martyr. The game is an ARPG where the player controls a member of the Imperial Inquisition with a goal of locating a long lost space ship called ‘The Martyr’.

While in combat as the player decimates the enemy a meter will begin to fill up and once it is maxed a random effect will occur. This time I received help from an Astartes Space Marine! It was only an NPC but we cut through swarms of the enemy heretics.

ARPGs are pretty hard to get a good photo of because of the fast paced combat and all the elements being thrown on screen but I managed to get this photo of the Space Marine swinging his chainsword while I fired my bolter at the same enemy unit.

Sucks to be a heretic!

Scoring!

rocketleague1.jpg
Photo Title: No Boost

Boosting in Rocket League is an important part of the game and some argue that if you have zero boost then you are useless and should drive around the arena gaining more turbo.

But I find that I can easily bob and weave through every other player who is holding down their boost button for SPEED and while at the enemy goal and the ball was just being smacked around I threaded my car through the needle and smashed the ball into the goal.

The Catch up

division22.png
Photo Title: Holding Ground

Taking and holding Control points around the map is a constant battle in Division 2 and the player could spend all day running around the map defending the points as enemies attempt to recapture it.

This Photo was taken at night using the photo mode in game. While capturing a defense of the control point, one of the Civilian Militia takes control of a mounted gun to fend off the attacking faction.

I used a filter and brightened up the photo using the in game photo mode and it turned out better than I thought!

Timed Escape

aliensfireteam3.jpg

Photo Gallery Title: Running through a bypass

The Fireteam I was with were extracting to an elevator before the station blew up. I ‘coincidentally’ was the first one to reach the elevator and was awaiting the others to show up so we could extract.

I captured some photos of them arriving, You can see the player in the background providing overwatch cover while the approaching player does a combat roll into the elevator. Unfortunately from the photographic view it looks like he slips and falls into the cabin.

We all successfully extracted and afterwards there were some accusing questions on how I made it to the elevator so quickly…

House ‘Hunt’ing

huntshowdown2.jpg
Photo Title: House in the Mi(d)st

Playing Hunt: Showdown and we had to grab a clue inside this house. Before we even reached the steps there was gunfire on the other side of the house. Time to ruin their fun!

Chaos Champion

warhammer.jpg
Photo Title: Edge of Chaos

Stumbling into an arena that the enemy is more than happy to jump into is an obvious sign of tough times ahead.

Half way!

20220615195314_1.jpg
Photo Title: Half Winged

War Thunder was recently updated and I wanted to play a few rounds. I was in pursuit of an enemy that had his guns set on my ally and we were flying in between skyscrapers. The buildings we were between suddenly curved with the road, my ally and the enemy made the turn perfectly in their agile planes whilst I, in my bulkier plane, clipped a building with my wing!

During my wild correction from losing half my wing, I fired a volley from my guns and killed the enemy fighter!

I killed the bad guy, my teammate was safe, and I managed to avoid crashing. A successful mission!

Explosive Exit

worms.jpg
Photo Title: Final Present

The Worms series has caused more than a few fights in my gaming group and this photo is a perfect example of why. Instead of shooting the blue and yellow worm with a bazooka or lobbing a grenade the red player wanted to add a personal touch by parachuting in between the two units, placing a stick of dynamite and escaping outside the blast radius within the 5 seconds of it exploding.

This was a motivated move and everybody in the voice chat let him know how they felt.

 Fire Can Solve This!

warhammerinquisitormarytr4.jpg
Photo Title: Roasted Chaos

Clearing out minions of Chaos is made easier when they come charging towards me while I am in control of a mounted heavy flamer.

Unexpected Fish!

newworldfish.jpg
Photo Title: Waterfall fishing

While framing this shot in New World I had a fish bite my fishing line. I pulled it in just because and was surprised to see I caught a Legendary Fish!

newworldfish1.jpg
newworldfish2.jpg

Pardon the UI but this thing was quite a sight to see! I was happy to catch it though and I typed in the games global chat ‘I once caught a fish THIIIIIIS legendary!’ and linked the fish description.

Finding Secrets

division21.png
Photo Title: Past ECHOs

There are plenty of little discoveries in Division 2’s Washington D.C. Map from Art pieces and Voice messages to ECHOs that play back a snippet of what happened in that area with audio and a visual representations of the characters position in that moment of time.

I entered through an open window hoping to cut through a building to the next street over when I came across an ECHO depicting Division Agents being interviewed by a reporter about the Division agency and what their thoughts were about the games disaster. I wasn’t able to cut through the building but it was still a pretty neat find!

Catching up again

fallout761.png
Photo Title: ‘POWER’ful Imagery

In Fallout 76 there is a world event where players attempt to clear out and repair a power plant. The end goal is to claim the power plant as yours to produce nuclear fission which is used to power either player housing equipment or allow use of Power Armor.

I took this Photo using the in game photo mode when another player claimed the power plant and the cooling towers and pipes began exuding vapors. It looks like a framed photo and just like the Hole in the Wall photo (Posted earlier this month) whenever I see it in my loading screens I think its a default loading image before remembering that I captured the photo!

The Start of my Gaming Photography Journey

Monsterhunterworld.jpg
Photo Title: Viewing Target

I would always try and capture a screenshot of whacky moments during gaming but none of it was really ‘cinematic’ or ‘dynamic’, it was more like ‘Hey remember when that thing happened?’ similar to a roller coaster photo.

It wasn’t until Monster Hunter World, that featured a Photo mode, that I started to take some photos that could sort of tell a story just by looking at it.

I was still trying to practice some good angles, I wanted the Hunters clenched hand to be the focus with the monster in the background. Looking at it now it just looks like a crotch shot with a winged lizard in the background.

Honing a skill is just another step to greatness though and I plan on taking amazing photos that will leave the viewer stunned that it came from a Video Game.

All Out Defense

planetside2fps1.jpg
Photo Title: Purple Stands!

I play the Medic role in Planetside 2. The photo shows the A control point that everybody is defending. At the doorway you can see explosions as the enemy is trying their best to get inside the room and recapture it for their side.

Somebody threw a stun grenade and caused the effects so now the photo looks extra cool!

Double Dipping

planetside2laser.jpg

Photo Titles: Orbital Bombardment

planetside2laser1.jpg

This is a continuation of the photo from Day 22. But after my faction captured the facility the faction we had just taken it from decided to exterminate as many enemies as possible and shoot an orbital laser at the control point.

AT THE SAME TIME my faction decided to shoot an orbital laser right on top of the enemy spawn points and clear them from the facility. I don’t know how many perished but the facility was cleaned out of both parties when I ran back inside.

Positioning to Start

division23.png
Photo Title: Inching Closer

Division 2 Control Points are difficult to take over on higher difficulties and finding a good position to start the assault is vital to victory. I was trying to move from cover to cover to get closer but an enemy briefly saw me and kept looking my way so I had to keep waiting until he turned around again.

During the wait time I opened up the Photo mode in game and snapped this awesome picture.

Castle Assault

warhammervermintide22.jpg
Photo Title: Fogged invasion

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 does a fantastic job of showing locations and detail of the Age of Sigmar setting. Usually it’s seen from an overhead camera in Real Time Strategy games.

Turning a corner and seeing the location that the party is venturing towards is pretty cool too! It gives a good sense of depth and upon arrival it feels like an accomplishment.

Ye Olde House

Photo_2022-06-26-213322.png
Photo Title: Frayed Edges

When the lighting in Fallout 76 hits a building or monument just right I have to take a photo! Using the Photo Mode I added the frayed edge frame and I messed with the filters until the colors drained, sort of like sepia. It turned out better than I thought!

Monster Photo Hunt

mhrisechallengeday1.jpg
Photo Title: Bestial Wrath

It took a bit of running around while the monster chased me before I was finally able to get a solid photo of the Rajang. In Monster Hunter Rise I love how the zones on a map mesh together, like how the lava flows in the background and into the water along with how the color contrasts. The black fur of the Rajang and the blue water color really make it’s red eyes pop out and make it look terrifying… Which it is!

Another Monster Photo

mhrisechallengeday2.jpg
Photo Title: Striking Pose

It is a bit more difficult to get photos in Monster Hunter Rise than in Monster Hunter World due to the monsters being more aggressive but sometimes the camera aligns perfectly and a photo like this is the product.

Only The Beginning

fallout762.png
Photo Title: Dreary Docks

Walking out of an wrecked office building and seeing a dry river bed (When on the map it is a blue water line) was a bit of a shock in Fallout 76. I suppose any ‘Happy-go-lucky’ map that featured ‘fun locations to visit’ will have changed after a series of nuclear bombs dropped around the area.

Well, this is the end of the ‘Game Photography Challenge’. I started the challenge mostly for myself so I would get into the habit of posting more frequently, but also for any other players or parties interested in how game photography works, along with anybody that wanted to showcase their works or moments in the month of June.

I’ll still be posting my game photography here in the community and I welcome other players to share their photos, captures, or screenshots. Thank you for your interest in the ‘Gaming Photography’ community!

2026 Thoughts Looking Back

I had created a community on Hive to cement ‘Gaming Photography’ as a skill/hobby and to make a spot for others to share their game photos. The 30-day challenge was a way for me to populate the community with created content and give others an idea of how to do some things. Things with the community didn’t turn out how I thought but that’s okay! It was an experiment on my end and I still benefitted from the activity and crafted a skill that I still participate with often during my gameplay sessions.
